One thing I have learned especially doing personal evangelism as well as seeking to disciple some personal friends including born again Christians is that many people in Canada even born again Christians don't currently read the Bible - the word of God on a consistant basis. Pray that more Canadian Christians would be convicted of God's Holy Spirit to read the Bible on a consistant basis for their daily spiritual food, strength and guidance. Pray also that those who could be born again Christians but who aren't currently walking with the Lord will return to a closer walk with the Lord including reading the Bible on a regular basis especially as the day of the Lord Jesus' coming for the Church to bring us to heaven rapidly approcahes. Pray also that more non-Christians will be convicted by God's Holy Spirit that the Bible is indeed the inspired word of God and the primary authority of God's plan for mankind.
The Canadian government of the Conservative Party led by Stephen Harper have announced they will in early February have a vote in the Canadian Parliament on whether to continue with the current mission of the Canadian Armed Forces in Afghanistan. There have been some deaths of Canadian soldiers on an ongoing bases and some problems eliminating the Taliban in the south as well as dependence for opium crops for the Afghan farmers but there has been some improvement in human rights including in education and freedom for women and in religious freedom. It has not yet been decided as far as I know whether the proposed vote will be a confidence vote but that is still a possibility. There is the danger that if Canada pulls out of Afghanistan including the military component the Taliban would be reestablished there again as well as perhaps Al Qaeda and they could again use it as a training base to plan terrorist attacks against the west as was the case leading to the attacks against the World Trade Centre in New York City in September 2001. Pray that God give Stephen Harper and the Conservatives wisdom whether to make this vote on Afghanistan a confidence vote or not. Especially if this is a confidence vote pray that God would guide the MPs (Members of Parliament) wisdom and guidance how to vote balancing the wishes of their constituents with many not wanting the war to continue to Canada's security needs and the prospects to development in Afghanistan without western military force to enforce it.
As Canadians especially couples celebrate VAlentine's Day as probably the most romantic day of the year pray that especially Christian couples will remember to exercise self- control and God's will to keep sexual intimacy within marriage of one man and one woman. Pray that couples wishing to be intimate with each other will find the means to support themselves economically and follow through with the marriage ceremony especially at a hopefully Jesus Christ centred Bible centred church to be able to have sex with each other with God's blessing. Pray that the Christian idea of marriage will not be further set aside by the media portrayal of love as instant gratification without the committment of marriage and the risk of Aids or sexually transmitted diseases especially those who are sexaully active with multiple partners and who are not in a committed marriage relationship.
The omnibus crime bill authored by the federal Conservative government I believe has been passed by the House of Commons but still needs to be passed by the Senate. This bill with many parts includes aspects that would make it a crime to drink while using drugs, making it a crime to use guns in a crime and would raise the age of sexual consent in Canada from 14 one of the lowest ages in the world to 16. Pray that as has now been promised the federal Liberals will agree to persuade their senators to pass this bill by March 1 so this legislation would become law in this session or and version of parliament and that it would not be delayed or perhaps die on the order paper if an election is called soon by the Conservative or forced by losing a confidence vote. Pray also that this legislation could be effectively implemented and enforced to bring about a more lawful and righteous society in Canada and bring about more of God's blessing for Canada.
